En el año 1985 el volcán del Nevado del Ruiz entra en erupción y ocasiona una catástrofe en la ciudad, donde muere aproximadamente el 85% de su población y deja varias de las edificaciones devastadas y sumergidas en el lodo que se generó, no obstante, algunas de estas edificaciones aún se conservan, pero se encuentran en estado de ruina debido a la tragedia y a los daños reportados al pasar del tiempo, los cuales fueron causados por la creciente ocupación de vegetación y saqueos, actualmente se encuentra en estado de abandono y sin una política de manejo o la conservación, esto trae consigo la falta de apropiación del lugar, así como a la pérdida de su historia y su cultura. Este proyecto pretende promover la puesta en valor que tiene el municipio, mediante modelos 3D que permita conocer la historia y la catástrofe ocurrida en Armero, realizando una reconstrucción arquitectónica tridimensional de los lugares emblemáticos que existieron en la antigua ciudad y que son recordados por sus habitantes; donde se proporcionen espacios de realidad virtual para el conocimiento y conmemoración de este; dicha reconstrucción se realizará a través de la recolección de experiencias vividas por medio de relatos hablados y escritos, la identificación de planos, videos e imágenes nuevas y antiguas.In the 20th century Armero was one of the most important municipalities in Colombia, also known as the white city for the production and export of cotton, rice and coffee, as mentioned by El País (2015).
