El recurso presenta seis usos estratégicos de la IA para esta fase: ampliar un tema inicial general en distintas líneas y dimensiones de investigación; generar preguntas exploratorias que estimulen el pensamiento crítico en lugar de respuestas cerradas; explorar relaciones teóricas entre factores y variables, presentadas como hipótesis por verificar y no como hechos comprobados; identificar contradicciones, sesgos, supuestos y ángulos no evidentes en el planteamiento; construir un mapa progresivo de posibilidades investigativas (tema, dimensiones, problemas, variables, población y contexto); y emplear la IA como interlocutor crítico o "sparring intelectual" que cuestiona fortalezas, ambigüedades y vacíos antes de que el investigador defina su problema.
