Digital cartographic re-construction in colonized cities: Methodological proposal for the Axis Guayaquil-Cuenca-Azogues

| dc.description | At present there are multiple investigations on historical cartography, social and economic dynamics related to the urban growth of various cities in Ecuador. However, despite this, there is no comprehensive work, on a regional scale and available to the non-scientific public. In fact, three problems have prevented this from happening. The first: all the work that has been carried out focuses on the provincial capitals, addressing them in isolation. The second: the plans that have been taken into account present periods of local importance, and have been selected on the basis of the economy and development of a single city. And third: there has not been a complete systematization that makes all the plans available in a single source. It is precisely these three gaps from which the Urban Historical Cartography project starts, which takes the Guayaquil-Cuenca-Azogues axis as its study area, focusing -above all- between the 15th-21st centuries. It is from this proposal that a methodological design is proposed for the cartographic reconstruction in digital format of the territories included in said axis. | en |
| dc.description | En la actualidad existen múltiples investigaciones sobre cartografía histórica, dinámicas sociales y económicas relacionadas con el crecimiento urbano de varias ciudades de Ecuador. Sin embargo, a pesar de esto, no existe un trabajo integral, de escala regional y que esté a disposición del público no científico. De hecho, tres problemas han evitado que esto ocurra. El primero: todos los trabajos que se han llevado a cabo se centran en las capitales provinciales, abordándolas de manera aislada. El segundo: los planos que se han tomado en cuenta presentan períodos de importancia local, y han sido seleccionados sobre la base de la economía y desarrollo de una sola ciudad. Y tercero: no ha existido una sistematización completa que ponga a disposición todos los planos en una sola fuente. Son justamente estos tres vacíos de donde parte el proyecto de Cartografía Histórica Urbana que toma como área de estudio el eje Guayaquil-Cuenca-Azogues, centrándose –sobre todo— entre los siglos XV-XXI. Es a partir de esta propuesta que se plantea un diseño metodológico para la reconstrucción cartográfica en formato digital de los territorios comprendidos en dicho eje. | es |
