Gender: an invisible but substantial variable in higher education

dc.descriptionThis article presents a quantitative reading on the Universidad Industrial de Santander full time teachers ‘distribution by gender unbundled by different variables that contribute to the visibility of subjects related to gender equity in Higher Education as a necessary step for the construction of gender indicators and so on to visualize discrimination at these level. The methodology used for the research was the Cross qualitative one and 2011 full time teachers were taken as primary reference, based on the statistic information provided by the institution. A data base was raised to allow a statistic analysis on the correlation of the different variables. From the given results gender differences stand out as the 71.2% of full time teachers are men and a 28.8% women evidencing significant differences by faculty and University level programs as well as functions, remuneration and rhythm and teaching career advancement. en
dc.descriptionSe presenta una lectura cuantitativa sobre la distribución de la población de profesores de planta según sexo en la Universidad Industrialde Santander, desagregada por diferentes variables para el estudio de temas relacionados con equidad de género en la educación superior,como un paso necesario hacia la construcción de indicadores de género y discriminación en las IES colombianas. La investigación escuantitativa, transversal. Se tomó como referencia la planta docente, año 2011 a partir de información estadística aportada por la institución.Se construyó una base datos que permitió un análisis estadístico correlacionar sobre diferentes variables. De los resultados se destacandiferencias por sexo encontrando que el 71.2% del total de profesores de planta son hombres y el 28.8% mujeres, evidenciando diferenciassignificativas por facultad y programa tanto en los niveles y funciones, en la remuneración y en el ritmo de ascenso en la carrera profesoral. es
