Abstract

Selección de Temas para Estudiantes de Ingenierías is a didactic booklet focused on basic topics of civil engineering that will provide students with a learning and consultation material of fundamental topics for the engineer's work. The booklet is divided into 5 chapters: the first one has selected contents of the so-called basic topics of mathematics, which will allow the Grancolombian student to review and recover ideas and concepts that he/she surely worked with during the teaching-learning process in mathematics courses. The material also presents a series of exercises and problems that will support the acquired learning. The second chapter is designed to support the student's learning process in that it seeks to promote the development of logical-mathematical thinking from the approach and solution of problems in different contexts, referring to functions, ratios of change and optimization that contribute to the theoretical foundations of specific areas of administrative, accounting or engineering sciences. The third chapter dedicated to algorithms, therefore, wants to design different solution alternatives to mathematical problems posed, which although they can be expressed in different ways, will achieve the same results. It is used to define a proposed solution method, ordered, and finite steps that allow to facilitate the solution of a problem. The fourth chapter, "Elements of descriptive statistics", provides the basic concepts of descriptive statistics and some applications of using formulas with the Excel program. This section is focused on all types of students taking statistics courses who need to: classify, summarize and interpret information of any type of data regarding one or two variables, and thus, be able to analyze and solve problems from this area applied to their professional work. Finally, the book closes with the subject of construction materials, a precise introduction that presents in a simple way the main postulates of the most used materials nowadays: hydraulic cement, aggregates, water, and without a doubt they constitute the major part of a country's infrastructure in terms of construction, which is why they are the necessary inputs for buildings, hospitals, schools, highways, streets, roads and highways.
