While criminals use them for purposes of theft and identity theft, which allows them to commit crimes such as falsification of private documents, concealment of true identity, theft, scams, among others. The Colombian legal system contains regulations aimed at penalizing such criminal activities, as well as mechanisms to protect the integrity of the data provided by citizens in order to prevent them from being violated. Due to the technological progress that exists today, fingerprints can be transplanted more easily, due to this, the databases that contain them merit greater protection and security.     Abstract

    Las huellas dactilares de una persona permiten su identificación y, por consiguiente, deben estar protegidas contra el intento de obtención, acceso o revelación para usos indebidos. Desde tiempos remotos, existen técnicas y métodos que pueden ser utilizados para la trasplantación de las huellas dactilares con distintos fines. La criminología, por ejemplo, utiliza la técnica de trasplantación de huellas latentes con la finalidad de preservar la evidencia, así como también, para poder analizarlas y realizar las comparaciones pertinentes en sus laboratorios. Mientras que los delincuentes las utilizan con fines de hurto y suplantación de identidad, lo que les permite cometer delitos como falsificación de documentos privados, ocultamiento de la verdadera identidad, robos, estafas, entre otros. El ordenamiento jurídico colombiano, contiene regulaciones dirigidas a penalizar dichas actividades delincuenciales, así como también mecanismos para proteger la integridad de los datos proporcionados por los ciudadanos a fin de evitar que puedan ser vulnerados. Debido al avance tecnológico existente en la actualidad, las huellas dactilares pueden ser trasplantadas con mayor facilidad, debido a ello, las bases de datos que las contienen ameritan una mayor protección y seguridad.
