    Abstract

    En el presente documento se explican los conceptos de Balística y Química Forense, en función de su importancia en la consecución de información para la creación de la teoría de un caso, teniendo en cuenta que ambas son herramientas fundamentales a la hora de esclarecer un hecho delictivo en el que se vean involucradas armas de fuego, explosivos o sustancias químicas. La aplicación de técnicas para determinar rastros de pólvora en manos, prendas de vestir u otros elementos, el cotejo de elementos pertenecientes a las armas de fuego, proyectiles y vainillas, determinación de la distancia a la que se efectuó un disparo y otros hechos, pueden dar cuenta y explicar en gran parte una secuencia de sucesos en una escena del crimen. Del mismo modo, las técnicas brindadas por la química forense pueden ayudar a determinar si realmente existen rastros de pólvora en una superficie, el tipo de pólvora usada, la determinación del tipo de explosivos usados en un hecho criminal, el cotejo de diferentes tipos de sustancias etc.; lo que se convierte en muchas ocasiones en un complemento para la balística forense en el momento de emitir un concepto frente a una solicitud hecha por la fiscalía o a defensa en el momento que se desarrolle un proceso penal.
