The most important goal of this research was to establish the students` reading strategies from 10th and 11th grades their use and how often they use them to see the consistency between them and the English Standards adopted by Ministerio de Educación Nacional (MEN). To that effect, the methodological design used was qualitative with a descriptive-analytical approach and supported with the instruments such as: the EECLI survey (English Reading Comprehension Strategies Survey), a Spanish translation of SORS (Survey of Reading Strategies) and the focus group. Based on the data collection and the data analysis, results demonstrated that the english reading level of 10th and 11th grades differs from the English Standards.     Abstract

    El presente proyecto surge de la necesidad de profundizar en el campo disciplinar de la enseñanza del inglés como lengua extranjera, específicamente en el uso de las estrategias de comprensión de lectura en la comunidad educativa I.E.D Juana Escobar en el año 2014. El propósito central de la investigación fue determinar las estrategias de lectura que utilizan los estudiantes de ciclo cinco (5) de dicha institución y establecer la frecuencia de su uso para poder diagnosticar la concordancia de éstas con lo establecido por los Estándares Básicos de Competencias en Lenguas Extranjeras: Inglés; plantados por el Ministerio de Educación Nacional (MEN). Para tal efecto, el diseño metodológico empleado fue de carácter cualitativo con enfoque descriptivo-analítico, y apoyados en instrumentos tales como la encuesta EECLI (Encuesta sobre Estrategias de Comprensión Lectora en Inglés), traducción del inventario SORS (Survey of Reading Strategies) y el grupo focal. A partir del análisis de la información recolectada y los resultados encontrados se evidenció que el nivel de lectura en inglés de los estudiantes difiere de lo establecido en los Estándares. Como aporte de esta investigación, se diseñó una estrategia didáctica denominada “English Reading Calendar” basada en estrategias metacognitivas, con el fin de fortalecer el desarrollo de la comprensión lectora en inglés en estudiantes de ciclo cinco (5) de la I.E.D Juana Escobar
